Mohammed Shami handcuffed batsmen

Last weekend India were saving a home one-day series against Australia. His jet lag had not yet dropped after he took a 2–0 lead in the T20I series in New Zealand on Sunday. It was once again for his better bowling as he limited New Zealand to just 132, the third lowest total at Eden Park.

Jasprit Bumrah was sensational once again, but found more heroes in the support cast: Ravindra Jadeja took two middle-order wickets, and Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami handcuffed the New Zealand batsmen.

On a slow pitch, India did not get the chase at the Kakewalk, but KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer absorbed the pressure before finishing the style. Rahul's purple patch continued with his second half-century. If New Zealand had run him out, the stranded mid-pitch - on 42, the remaining 47 from 38 balls - would have also become a challenge. It was not like India getting out of the house with 15 balls to spare.

New Zealand first saw the lethargy of the pitch when deciding to bat, which makes the powerplay even more important: you want to score your runs against the new ball and with the field. However, Colin Munro's clash put Martin Guptill under pressure to go after the bowling. When Yuzvendra Chahal scored the sixth over with just seven runs in the fifth over, the sixth over - thrown by Shardul Thakur - became really important. New Zealand's score was 39 after struggling with Munro for 14 runs in 13 overs.

Bowling in the powerplay is usually the most difficult for teams from zero to sixth over. Guptill strengthened the challenge with two fours in the first four balls, but when he tried to sign the powerplay with a six off the last ball, Thakur held the ball to just one end. New Zealand 48 for 1 after six.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the heroes of India's victory in 1 T20I, played the role again on Sunday and helped their team to a 133-run target to take a 2–0 lead in the 5-match series. After a bowling performance inspired by their bowlers, Rahul and Iyer ensured that India survived the initial hiccup to complete an easy 7-wicket win over the hosts.

However, India's chase as Rohit Sharma (8) was the biggest from the start, after hitting 2 fours, gave an easy catch to Ross Taylor in the slip off Tim Southee. Southee soon returned to take the prized ball of Virat Kohli in the 6th over and was caught by wicketkeeper Tim Seifert for 11 runs.

Since then, the heroes of the previous match KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have tried to stabilize the pair as both found that it was not so easy to make a shot on this pitch. Rahul and Iyer performed brilliantly while taking a toll on the poor innings of the Kiwi team and did not let the innings get out of control at any point.

But in the 15th over of the innings, Rahul suddenly exploded, dismissing Hamish Bennett for 4 from 6 and a 4 balls and scoring his second half-century in succession from just 43 balls. The next ball, Bennett, overlapped with a 5-over shoulder wicket bringing the required run-rate down to 6.

Iyer scored 44 but Rahul scored an unbeaten innings of 57 off 50 balls. Shivam Dubey scored the winning run and was unbeaten on 8.
