On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai, the scientist who brought India to space, Google has remembered him by making a doodle.
Sarabhai has contributed greatly in the field of space research in India.
Born on August 12, 1919, the home of a leading cloth merchant in Ahmedabad, Shri Sarabhai is counted among the greatest scientists of India. He greatly helped the scientists working with him, especially young scientists, to grow.
He established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad in 1947 and within a short time made it a world-class institution. When scientists saw satellites as an important tool for space studies, the then Prime Ministers Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Shri Homi Bhabha supported the establishment of the Indian National Committee for Space Research, with Mr. Vikram Sarabhai as Chairman. He founded the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on 15 August 1969.
Vikram Sarabhai has been made a Google Doodle on his 100th birth anniversary.Google pays tribute to big personalities of different fields by making Google Doodle who have made a big contribution to the society.
He got financial help from his father only. At that time Sarabhai was just 28 years old, but within a few years he made PRL a world-class institution. Sarabhai was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan Award in the year 1966 for his better work.
Sarabhai (Vikram Sarabhai) is also considered the father of the Indian space program. He was also awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Medal in 1962. He died on December 30, 1971, near the same place where he had tested India's first rocket. In the last week of December, he arrived in Thumba to test a Russian rocket and died while sleeping at night in a resort in Kovalam Beach.
