Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi (Xiaomi) on Tuesday (24 September 2019) launched the Mi Mix Alpha smartphone with 108 mega pixels. The company is currently calling this smartphone a concept smartphone. The company has not yet given information on when it will be launched for the common people.

The company offered a glimpse of this phone during an event in China. According to the company's CEO Li Jun, the price of the phone has been fixed at around 19999 yuan (1.98 lakh). It will be available for sale later this year. It was also told during the event that the company will manufacture some units of this phone only.

Company CEO Li Jun told Xiaomi’s Mi Mix series has always pushed the boundaries of phone screens and form factors, from the original model that kicked off the bezel wars to last year’s sliding, notchless Mi Mix 3. Now, just as we’re starting to see “waterfall” displays with extreme curved edges, Xiaomi is taking this to a wild new level with the Mi Mix Alpha.

The "surround screen" on the Alpha revolves entirely around the device, where it meets the camera module on the other side. The effect is of a phone that is almost entirely composed of a screen, displaying a status icon such as a network signal and a battery charge level on the side. Pressure-sensitive volume buttons are also shown on the side of the phone. Xiaomi is claiming a screen-to-body ratio of over 180 percent, a statement that no longer has any sense of quoting at all.

The company has designed this phone keeping in mind those who like photography. All such features have been given in the phone, which are seen to compete with the recently launched phones of the big companies. It was speculated that the company would provide a 108 megapixel camera in this phone. This is exactly what was being speculated. The company has given a strong camera to the phone. Through this, users can take a photo of 12,032 x 9,024 pixels resolution.

But the 1 / 1.33-inch sensor is unusually large for a phone and should give the Mix Alpha plenty of light-gathering capability. There is no need for a selfie camera - you simply turn the phone around and use the rear part of the display as a viewfinder for the 108-megapixel shooter.

As for the phone’s more traditional specs, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, 5G connectivity, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, 40W wired fast-charging, and a 4,050mAh battery.Since the phone is almost all-screen, it also doesn't come with (other than the power button at the top) and has pressure-sensitive sides instead. Its other components are hidden underneath the display, as well, including the fingerprint reader and an acoustic technology that replaces the typical earpiece and speaker. And like its predecessor, the Mi Mix, Alpha also uses ultrasound for proximity sensing.

Display Acoustic Technology has been given in the phone. It has an Android-based MIUI 11 operating system. Inside the device, you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It already has 5G radio bands for all three major carriers in China and comes with a 4,050mAh battery with 40W fast charging capability. While Mi Mix Alpha may seem like a concept or a prototype at most, Xiaomi says it's already in "small-scale production" and that it's launching in December, though it's unclear if it'll be available outside China at the same time. The phone will go into small-scale production this year and go on sale in December for 19,999 yuan, or about $2,800. The original Mi Mix was also given the “concept” label and released in small quantities, with the Mi Mix 2 following a year later as a more mainstream device.
